Day 1: Welcome to Funchal

Welcome to Portugal. Wine Tourism in Portugal will invite you to discover this amazing Country.

Upon completing airport formalities at Funchal International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your English-speaking chauffeur. Travel in comfort in a deluxe vehicle as you are transferred to your accommodations.

Drop-off at the Hotel.

Discover the island’s breathtaking nature with a guided hiking activity, including a delightful “surprise lunch” in the mountains. Explore Madeira’s famed levadas—ancient irrigation channels ingeniously constructed to transport water across the island’s challenging terrain. These pathways, surrounded by verdant landscapes, natural rock tunnels, and crystal-clear lagoons, offer a unique window into Madeira’s history and ecology.

With more than 30 recommended routes spanning approximately 3,000 kilometers, there’s a trail for every preference and pace. Additionally, “veredas” (paths without water channels) provide even more options for exploring the island’s diverse terrain.

Hiking along these trails offers direct contact with Madeira’s pristine Laurissilva Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your private Jeep driver will be waiting for you in the hotel lobby to embark on a customized journey through some of the island’s most breathtaking sights. Visit Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, to observe the magnificent landscapes colored by our vineyards, followed by a stop at the Cabo Girão viewpoint. We will also visit the Boca dos Namorados viewpoint, 1000 meters above sea level, where we can enjoy a fantastic view of Curral das Freiras.

Midday, immerse yourself in Madeira’s winemaking tradition with a visit to the lush Quinta do Barbusano vineyards. Learn about the island’s viticulture while soaking in the serene ambiance of this idyllic estate. Enjoy a wine tasting session featuring exquisite local varietals, perfectly paired with a traditional Madeiran lunch. Savor juicy espetada (meat skewers grilled on bay leaf sticks), tender boiled potatoes, a fresh garden salad, warm, garlicky bolo do caco (Madeiran flatbread), a decadent passion fruit pudding, and a glass of Madeira wine that captures the essence of the island’s flavors.

After lunch, continue your journey to the renowned natural pools of Porto Moniz, formed by volcanic rock and filled with the crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic. Relax by the tranquil pools or take a refreshing dip, surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery.
