Day 1: Discover Lisbon

Welcome to Portugal. Wine Tourism in Portugal will invite you to discover the amazing Lisbon.

After airport formalities at Lisbon International Airport (LIS), you will be collected outside customs, and transferred, by a Deluxe vehicle with English speaking Chauffeur, to the Hotel.

Check-in at Hotel da Estrela. Located in a baroque area of Estrela, in Lisbon, the Estrela Hotel is housed in the elegant Palace of the Counts of Paraty. Its interior design by Miguel Câncio Martins (Budha Bar of Paris, Pacha of Marrakech) brings back the spirit of the ancient schools, offering an original experience stay. The hotel has 13 rooms and 6 suites with impressive views of the city and the river Tejo. All the ROOMS are spacious, comfortable, with an ambiance that combines the iconography of the old schools with the modern design, the idea to relax in a bed in the garden in the middle of the city.

You will have a Drive/Walking Tour in Lisbon with a private driver. The city has great diversity and cultural depth. In Lisbon's historic center we will take you to the seductive appeal of the Chiado, a neighborhood evoking the bourgeois tastes of 19th century Lisbon. You will visit Lisbon's Cathedral, the only building that survived the 1755 earthquake. Afterward, we go up one of Lisbon's seven hills, in the Alfama neighborhood, you will find São Jorge Castel, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the city. Then, you will discover the renovated "Baixa pombalina", where you will find the ultra-luxurious Avenida da Liberdade (where shoppers will find Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Onofre. Armani, Zadig & Voltaire, and Tod’s) the Rua Augusta Arch, the Santa Justa Lift and Comércio Square. After returning to your Hotel a stop at the stylish district of Chiado home to Café a Brasileira and sip on Bica—Portuguese espresso—to admire the stunning brass-and-wood Art Nouveau interior, preferred haunt of intellectuals and artists (including Fernando Pessoa and Almada Negreiros) since the early nineteenth century.

Dinner will be served at By The Wine. This is a relaxed space for wine and food lovers in the heart of Lisbon. Between the various gastronomic options, you can find homemade bread from the Algarve, Iberian acorn ham, and country sausages from Guijuelo (Salamanca area), a choice of cheese boards, Sado oysters, mussel’s salad, salmon ceviche, carpaccio, and desserts to accompany the Muscatels from Setúbal.

Day 2: Wineries in Lisbon

Breakfast at the hotel.

The Chauffeur is waiting for you in the hotel lobby.

You will visit Quinta da Chocapalha. At Quinta da Chocapalha, all elements of the family have a role in creating the spirit of the project. The Quinta is located in Aldeia Galega, in Alenquer, the demarcated region of Lisbon mentioned since the XVI century for its excellent vineyards and wines. It belonged, from the beginnings of the century XIX to Constantine O`Neil, who later donated it to Diogo Duff, the esteemed Scottish nobleman of King D. John VI who decorated him with the commendation of "Tower and Sword". Visit the vineyards, new cellar, barrel room, and 3 wine tasting including top range, accompanied with cheese, sausages, and toast.

After the wine experience, you will discover Quinta do Gradil. Quinta do Gradil has a strong wine tradition that has persisted for centuries. The property comprises a noble Chapel ornamented by an artistically decorated tower, a cellar, and an agricultural area of 200 hectares with fruit and wine production where international award-winning wines are produced. It is thought that the Marquis of Pombal would have acquired the Quinta do Gradil in 1760, although the earliest references date back to 1492, the year of the document that D. Martinho de Noronha received from King João II, the donation letter of the jurisdiction, and rents of the Cadaval County and Quinta do Gradil. In the 90s, Luis Vieira acquires the Quinta to Sampaio de Oliveira and, since then, the modernization of the winery and existing vineyards has begun. You will enjoy Lunch with commented tasting and customized wine service. The selection of the dishes will be made by the course of the day. The experience also includes a guided tour and wine tasting.

On your way back to the hotel, enjoy a drive/walking tour in Belém a charming district to the west of Lisbon, and is the setting for many of the city’s most iconic tourist attractions. Originally, Belem was the location of Lisbon’s shipyards and docks, and from here departed the 15th-century voyages that discovered the sea routes to India, East Africa, and Brazil. This rich seafaring heritage is commemorated in Belem, along with extravagant buildings that were funded by the vast wealth that flowed into Portugal from the newly discovered colonies. Belem is one of the finest areas of Lisbon and offers outstanding tourist attractions like Torre de Belem, Lisbon’s most famous and photographed monument, Mosteiro dos Jeronimos the greatest example of the Manueline style of architecture, and the imposing Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a monument to the 15th-century Portuguese explorers, and its panoramic rooftop viewpoint. The Coach Museum was an initiative of Queen D. Amélia de Orléans e Bragança, wife of King D. Carlos I (1889-1908), who inaugurated it in 1905. It contains an exceptional collection of richly adorned royal vehicles, from the 17th to 19th centuries (coaches, berlins, carriages, chaises, litters, sedan-chairs), used by the Portuguese other European courts. The new National Coach Museum building, inaugurated in May 2015, houses the most representative part of the collection.

Drop-off at the Hotel

Day 3: Colares and Sintra

Breakfast at the hotel followed by Check-out.

The Chauffeur is waiting for you in the hotel lobby.

You will visit Adega Regional de Colares. Located between Sintra mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, the Colares region encloses the parishes of Colares, S. João das Lampas and S. Martinho, in the Sintra district. Colares has been an Appellation Origin since 1908, being the westernmost demarcated region of continental Europe and the smallest still-wine producing region in Portugal. Understanding the importance of protecting and preserving the Colares wine culture, its unique varieties, and original viticulture methods. The AR Colares philosophy rests on the imperative to ‘respect the Colares terroir’ and continue the tradition of our ancestors. We will allow you to visit the winemaking and stage facilities, with an explanation of the process, followed by wine tasting in the main cellar (Nineteenth-century building) and winery shop.

Continue your tour towards Sintra. You will have a Drive/Walking tour with a private driver. Sintra, the Moon Hill, is a place full of magic and mystery, where Nature and Man have combined in such a perfect symbiosis that UNESCO has granted it Word Heritage Site status. Fall in love with some of the most romantic and astonishing Palaces in Portugal. The sumptuous and wonderfully atmospheric National Palace of Pena and its Gardens appear as a wild fantasy of domes, towers, ramparts, and walkways. The Quinta da Ragaleira, is a 19th-century palace, although it looks older, boasting impressive decorations laden with Masonic references, the gardens of Seteais Palace and the Castel of the Moors, built in the ninth century.
