Alentejo is one of the most beautiful regions of the country. A land where culture and tradition go hand in hand. 

This itinerary was designed thinking of those who want to become connoisseurs of wine, gastronomy and all the singularities of the Alentejo region. In a warm and dry environment of terracotta plains, an 8-day tour, you will meet some of the best wine producers in Portugal, stroll the unique landscapes and get to know its people and traditions.

  • Subject to confirmation according to availability. You will receive an email with the details of the reservation and after that (in a 48h period), a confirmation email.
  • The confirmation Voucher includes complete information about the tour operator including contacts and directions.
  • Reservation guaranteed with a credit card number.
  • Tax is already included according to the legal tax in Portugal.
  • Any supplements are paid separately.
  • Payment: 50% of the total amount of the tour in the booking confirmation. 50% of the total amount of the tour at 45 days prior to the beginning of the tour. Or 100% of the total amount of the tour in the booking confirmation if less than 45 days prior to the beginning of the tour.
  • Cancellation: Cancellations up to 45 days prior the Tour: Non-refundable deposit (up to € 1.000 the deposit will be the total amount). Cancellations less than 45 days prior the Tour or no show: 100% of the total booking will be charged.
  • No show: 100% of the total booking price will be charged.

Day 1

After airport formalities at Lisbon International Airport (LIS), you will be collected outside customs, and transferred, by an English speaking private Driver in a Deluxe vehicle.
 
Departing from Lisbon towards the Alentejo region, at about one hour and a half from the city of Lisbon you will find Évora.
 
Check-in at Mar de Ar Aqueduto Hotel - Historic Design Hotel & SPA. A 5 Star Hotel located very near the historic centre of Évora, this is your starting point for the best wine experiences in the Alentejo region. The hotel arises from the adaptation of the old Sepúlveda Palace, a sixteenth-century building that has preserved a magnificent chapel, the vaulted ceilings and a set of three windows in Manuelino style in the main façade.

Day 2

You will discover the Adega da Cartuxa. Located in the former refectory of the Jesuit retirement home, they taught at the University of Évora in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. With his expulsion in 1759, by order of the Marquis of Pombal, the property became part of the state, starting a few years later, in 1776, working as an important mill of wine absorbed the wine production in the region. Acquired in the nineteenth century by Eugénio de Almeida family, the Cartuxa Cellar has undergone several renovations and expansions over time, preserving the richness of its architectural and historical memory. The logo identifies wines such as Vinea, EA, Foral de Évora, Cartuxa, Scala Coeli and the legendary Pêra-Manca, as well as the olive oils Álamos, EA and Cartuxa Gourmet.
You will have a guided visit with wine tasting and regional products.

Lunch will be served at Degust'AR Restaurant. Located on the ground floor of the Sepúlveda Palace building, the Degust'AR restaurant has the gastronomic signature of the Chef António Nobre. The menu has as its starting point in the Alentejo cuisine, and the Chef develops his creative inspiration by exploring the Mediterranean flavours.
 
Then, you will enjoy a drive/walking Tour to the city of Évora - World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Évora well-preserved historic center is one of the richest monuments in Portugal, worth the epithet of City-Museum. The Roman Temple of Évora, one of the most important Roman monuments in Portugal. It is located at the highest point of the city and was part of the Roman forum. It is thought to have been created around the 1st century to honor the Emperor Augustus, but later came to be known as the Temple of Diana. The Cathedral built between the 13th and 14th centuries in Gothic style, it is one of the most important medieval cathedrals in the country, with a plan inspired by the Romanesque Lisbon Cathedral. In the 14th century a cloister was built and the statues of the apostles of the main portal, the masterpiece of Portuguese medieval sculpture, were carved. In the 18th century the chancel was rebuilt in an exuberant baroque style. The Church of San Francisco it was reconstructed from the reign of D. João II and finished in the time of D. Manuel. Its architecture and decoration mixes the Gothic, Mudejar and Manueline styles. Chapel of the Bones located in the Church of San Francisco, was built in the eighteenth century and is entirely lined with human bones. It is known by the famous phrase written at the entrance "We bones that here are, for yours await".

Day 3

Head to eastern Alentejo. You will find Adega Mayor. This Cellar is designed by the famous Siza Vieira architect where lie down some of the best wines, with over 100 national and international awards, after the visit you will enjoy a picnic with the best regional products and the best views over the Alentejo's plains. 

Then, drive/walking Tour  to the town of Elvas and Forte da Graça (Grace Fort) which is one of the most impressive monuments in Alentejo, considered by many historians as one of the most powerful bulwark fortresses in the world, both are UNESCO World Heritage site.

Check-in at Torre de Palma Wine Hotel. Inspired by the lifestyle of Basilii family and the Alentejo traditions, this is a unique space where you will find the comfort of a hotel, pragmatism of a cellar and the mastery in cuisine. 

A ride in a horse Lusitano awaits you to stroll through the estate.

Later, enjoy dinner at Basilli Restaurant. The flavors of the Alentejo with a touch of sophistication. This is a combination that you can find in Basilii restaurant. With a name that pays a tribute to the wealthy Roman family who inhabited in the village of Torre de Palma

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel followed by Check-out.

You will visit João Portugal Ramos. The Adega Vila Santa, in Alentejo, part of the group João Portugal Ramos, invites you to enjoy the serenity of Alentejo while you taste some of the most renowned Portuguese wines. In the Adega Vila Santa, modernity embraces harmoniously the centennial Portuguese wine making tradition. Some of the of grapes intended for the most sophisticated red wines, where the production follows the ancestral rules, are trodden in marble mills and partially destemmed. You will have a guided visit and Lunch.

Check-in at Herdade do Sobroso Country House. The Herdade is placed in the county of Vidigueira and it is delimited by the mountain of Mendro at the north, the river Guadiana at east and south an immense plain as far as the eyes can see. To the lovers of wine tourism and synergetic tourism, Herdado do Sobroso offers a unit of Rural Tourism integrated into the property vines.

Then, you will discover the Herdade do Sobroso Cellar. Come meet the 50 hectares of vineyards of Herdade do Sobroso and visit the winery where you can taste and buy wines, olive oil, honey and jams produced in Herdade. You will have a guided visit.

Dinner is waiting for you at Herdade do Sobroso Restaurant. Confirm how the art of eating well can be unique and unmistakable in the delicacies of the Cook Josefina.

You will enjoy a traditional inspired lunch at Herdade do Esporão Restaurant. The Herdade adopted a young and enthusiast kitchen's team that privileges the traditional gastronomy and the typical dishes of this region. This restaurant exceeds the highest standards of quality and delivers daily only fresh, local ingredients.

Then, you will have a Drive/Walking Tour to Reguengos de Monsaraz. The graceful medieval village of Monsaraz, maintains the magic from ancient times like few others in the world. Made of lime and schist, this place whispers us, between the echo of our footsteps in its streets. Monsaraz shows signs of having been a fortified settlement during prehistoric times. It has always had a strong military and religious influences, impeccably preserving time until these days.

Day 6

Lunch is waiting for you at Malhadinha Nova Wine & Gourmet Restaurant, signature cuisine led by Michelan Star Chief Consultant Joachim Koerper with the collaboration of the executive Bruno Antunes Chef and cook Vitalina Santos. They propose seasonal menus inspired by the local gastronomy. 

After the food experience, you will discover Herdade da Malhadinha Winery. The Cellar of Malhadinha Nova is traditional and sophisticated and brings together a unique set of characteristics favourable for the production of distinctive wines of the highest quality. Guided visit and wine tasting included.

10km away, you will find Herdade do Grous.

Check-in at Herdade dos Grous Hotel. The Herdade is located in the middle of the vineyards, olive groves, cork oaks and picturesque white villages in the heart of the Alentejo agricultural region. In this wonderful natural environment, you will find one of the most awarded Portuguese wines. This is a place of pure relaxation, serenity and remoteness from everyday life.

Dinner will be served at Herdade do Grous Restaurant. Warm and ideal place to enjoy the typical cuisine of the Alentejo, where most of the ingredients are home-made, bringing to the table the native flavours and freshness of the region. The team combines the expertise of the traditional culinary o the latest trends in modern cuisine. Its terrace offers fabulous panoramic views of the property and vineyards, making it the perfect spot for a delicious dinner with wine tasting or a candlelight dinner.

Day 7

Breakfast at the hotel. 

On this day you will enjoy the facilities of Herdade do Grous.

Enjoy the fabulous gardens, the "infinity pool" with a view to the 98 ha.(243 ac.) artificial lake, the old olive groves and the orange trees laden with fruit testify the fertile quality of this unique landscape. 

You will visit Herdade do Grous Winery that has the guidance of the renowned oenologist Luís Duarte. He is responsible for the making of the best wines of this Herdade. During the tour to the cellars, you will learn the different stages of the production of the wine and enjoy a different tasting of the wines produced in the Herdade.

Then, you will enjoy a picnic during Birdwatching at the Estate. Enjoy a birding experience guided tour among the Alentejo natural heritage, to observe the most emblematic birds in the area. Birds: Black-winged Kite, Crane, Osprey, Iberian Grey Shrike, Flamingo, Spoonbill, White Stork, Montagu’s Harrier, Little Bustard, Black-winged Stilt, Red-necked Nightjar, Hoopoe, Red-rumped Swallow, Woodchat Shrike, Sardinian Warbler, Azure-winged Magpie, Golden Oriole, Corn Bunting, among others.
